Job Summary

The Executive Business Manager (EBM) is a high-impact, strategic partner who enables executive leadership to operate at maximum effectiveness.  Blending business operations, project leadership, and strategic oversight, the EBM drives the execution of key initiatives, manages priorities, and ensures alignment between the executive’s vision and organizational performance. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, highly organized professional with strong business acumen and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Executive Operations & Strategy Act as the operational right hand to the executive, ensuring time, decisions, and energy are aligned with top strategic priorities. Develop, track, and report on business objectives and strategic initiatives. Support strategic planning processes and ensure effective execution of high-level goals. 20%
Project and Program Management Lead cross-functional projects on behalf of the executive from inception through execution. Monitor progress, remove roadblocks, and ensure delivery of key outcomes. Prepare reports, presentations, and strategic communications. 20%
Business and Performance Analytics Analyze business performance data to support decision-making and identify opportunities. Conduct market, competitor, or operational research and provide actionable insights. Collaborate with finance, operations, and the HR teams to align on key initiatives.     20%
Stakeholder & Team Coordination Act as a liaison between the executive and senior leaders, ensuring clear communications and follow-through. Support the executive in managing leadership team dynamics, agendas, and accountability. Facilitate the planning and execution of team meetings, offsites, and leadership sessions. 20%
Administrative Oversight Oversee key administrative functions related to the executive office (calendar, travel, meeting prep) through coordination with an Executive Business Partner or support team. Ensure operational excellence, process efficiency, and administrative alignment across the executive’s responsibilities. 20%

 

Scope / Complexity

The ideal candidate will be sure the Executive’s priorities are clearly communicated and consistently executed across the organization. Strategic initiatives are delivered on time and aligned with business goals. The executive’s organization operates with high efficiency and visibility. Teams are coordinated and supported in delivering against leadership priorities.

Job Qualifications

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in business, Management, or related field; (MBA or equivalent a plus); or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in business operations, consulting, or executive support roles.  Must have CEO, Board, and COS level experience.
  • Proven experience working with senior executives and managing confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with productivity tools.
  • Prior experience in a business management, chief of staff, or strategic project management role.
  • Familiarity with budgeting or strategic forecasting.
  • Experience in high-growth, matrixed, or entrepreneurial environments.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and influence skills.

Workplace Requirements:

  • The Executive Business Manager must maintain strict confidentiality; exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential information; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all areas and business within CRL.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $106,000/yr - $144,000/yr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

The Corporate Functions provide operational support across Charles River in areas such as Human Resources, Finance, IT, Legal, Sales, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Corporate Development. They partner with their colleagues across the company to develop and drive strategies and to set global standards. The functions are essential to providing a bridge between strategic vision and operational readiness, to ensure ongoing functional innovation and capability improvement.
