Job Overview
BASIC SUMMARY:
Perform basic histopathology slide functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform duties with supervision (as needed), prioritize workload, solve basic to moderately
complex problems and resolve issues, and perform numerous tasks simultaneously.
• Ensure the area is clean and orderly.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Health &
Safety standards and department policies/procedures in the performance of all duties.
• Perform scanning of slides for generation of whole slide images (WSIs).
• Coordinate and document slide/specimen shipment/transfer to and from pathologists.
• Archive glass slides.
• Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
• Perform basic troubleshooting with technical support for all instrumentation and equipment.
• Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials, as required for department.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
The pay for this position is $20-$21/hr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred. Associate’s degree (A.A./A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college recommended. Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in biology, zoology, chemistry, pathology, or related field strongly recommended.
• Experience: 0-2 years of relevant experience. Experience in the biomedical research industry desired. Technical laboratory experience is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Certification/Licensure: None
• Other: Must be able to perform effectively as a team member, accurately record data, follow verbal and written instructions, maintain a positive work atmosphere, communicate effectively, and interact in a professional manner with management, coworkers, and sponsors. Experience with computer software programs is preferred.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without a sponsor visa, now or in the future.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Must regularly operate a computer, slide scanner, and occasionally operate other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must regularly communicate with employees/customers, must be able to exchange accurate information
• Must occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Works in a research laboratory environment, which requires working around mechanical parts,
working at noise levels ranging from quiet to moderately noisy.
COMMENTS:
• May occasionally work on the weekend, holiday, or after hours.
