Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in South San Francisco, CA.
Under the direction of veterinary staff, the Veterinary Technician II supports the health and welfare of research animals for Charles River or external customers. This role involves complex instructions and requires techncial expertise. Performing clinical observations, supporting veterinary procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records in accordance with study and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine health monitoring, clinical observations, and animal welfare assessments.
- Assist with documentation and triage of animal health cases.
- Administer treatments via IV, IM, SQ, topical, or oral routes.
- Assist with animal restraint, venipuncture, bandaging, and basic grooming procedures.
- Monitor animals on scheduled protocols and perform follow‑up observations as needed.
- Monitor critical care animals, including IV placement and fluid monitoring.
- Maintain accurate animal treatment and medical records.
- Support preventive care measures such as vaccinations and routine treatments.
- Notify appropriate staff of animal conditions that could compromise studies.
- Assist with surgical and peri‑surgical care, including anesthesia monitoring.
- Maintain veterinary rooms, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform routine husbandry and general housekeeping duties as required.
- Follow all safety, study, and regulatory procedures.
Additional duties may be assigned based on business needs.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities, or an equivalent veterinary technology program.
- Bachelor's in animal science or related field also considered.
Experience
- One to two years of related experience working with animals in a pre‑clinical laboratory or clinical setting.
- Experience working in a CRO with multiple species is preferred.
Certification / Licensure
- LVT license or CVT/RVT certification preferred.
- AALAS certification preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Strong organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills.
- Basic word processing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in routine veterinary technical and husbandry techniques.
Pay Range
- $34.00 to $36.00 USD per hour
- Compensation within the range may vary based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
