Job Summary
We are seeking an Animal Support Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions Department to provide continuing support services to our Charles River clients throughout the South San Francisco, CA area where you're assigned to various sites based upon need.
As the Animal Support Technician I, you will provide the highest animal welfare standards and care, in addition to maintaining vivarium cleanliness.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Learn and support cagewash and animal care processes, to include monitoring animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to include performing daily equipment checks;
- Provide appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns.
- Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species. These experiences may involve a variety of lab animal species.
- May be tasked to assist with breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.
- Maintain an organize and clean work environment.
- Assist with receiving and housing incoming animals based on site needs.
- Attend and participate in on-the-job and classroom training sessions and complete all assigned computer-based safety and professional development training.
- Communicate procedural questions and self-identified training deficiencies to team lead or supervisor.
- Interact with customers as directed to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints, and may be tasked to provide technical assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Support Technician I position.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Life Sciences or related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of six - twelve (6-12) months of husbandry experience with rodents in a laboratory animal facility required.
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level preferred or obtained upon eligibility.
- Position requires travel between local sites to support client needs, must have valid drivers license and reliable personal vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed at the standard company rate.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, client and managers.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Understanding of basic animal identification methods.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and function independently, as well as within a team environment, with supervision.
The pay range for this position is $30-32 USD per hour. Please note that salary rates are based on varying factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
