Job Summary

As a Regional Biosafety Officer for our Health and Safety team, you will be coordinating the Regional Biosafety Program to ensure our program meets federal, local and corporate requirements.

 

In this role, primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates the Regional Biosafety network; maintains appropriate memberships and licenses, coordinates/manages a regular meeting cadence, drives regional objectives, and maintains records.
  • Promotes and monitors compliance with applicable legislation, conditions of license, animal pathogen import permits, biosafety and biosecurity standards, the Biosafety Manual and standard operating procedures;
  • Arrange and document appropriate biosafety and biosecurity training for personnel
  • Develop/maintain supporting document management systems and tools to support the program including local risks assessments and inventories of regulated material.
  • Conduct periodic inspections and biosafety audits. Report audit findings to the license holder and animal pathogen import holder in writing of any non-compliance and drive resulting action plans to closure
  • Communicate with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on behalf of the license holder and animal pathogen import permit holder, as applicable.
  • Supports the review and approval of proposed work involving infectious and biological safety work conducted at site level
  • Collaborates with Global/ Regional EHS&S team to establish assessment and inspection tools to identify Biosafety risks associated with operations and creates solutions for gaps or opportunities for program improvement.

Key Elements

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role: 

  • Technical or Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences;
  • 3-5 years experience in biosafety work;
  • Experience working with NHP and asset;
  • Ability to inspire trust and confidence through strong interpersonal skills and effective collaboration;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Bilingual (French & English).

 

Role Specific Information:

  • Locations (3): 
    • 445 Boul. Armand-Frappier, Laval, QC, H7V 4B3(1-2x per week);
    • 22022 route Transcanadienne, Senneville, QC, H9X 1C1 (3-4x per week);
    • 580 rue Ida-Métivier, Sherbrooke (Fleurimont), QC, J1E 0B5 (1x per month);
  • Annual bonus based on performance;
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day schedule, On site;
  • Permanent position as of the hiring, full-time 37.5hrs per week.
