Job Summary
• Provide EHS technical assistance and support to all facility departments for day-to day activities including chemical and biological safety along with EHS programs such as hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, electrical safe work practices and lockout-tagout programs.
• Conducts and/or participates in OSHA hazard assessments and lean manufacturing activities.
• Represents Charles River Laboratories with outside TOSHA, TDEC, and Memphis Fire Department regulatory agencies inspections and onsite visits.
• Maintain compliance and lead training efforts for SOPs related to TOSHA and TDEC compliance and make any necessary changes.
• Assist departments in creating an appropriate chemical hygiene, biohazard, and area safety plans and promote their implantation. Assist and lead investigations of reported problems, complaints, incidents, and injuries. Responds to and assist with mitigation of emergencies and spills involving hazardous, including biohazard materials.
• Designs and conducts general and specialized safety training including but not limited to medical emergency response, chemical storage and compatibility, handling hazardous materials and waste, proper disposal of biological samples and appropriate PPE.
• Provides consultation to individuals and departments on safety and health-related issues, as needed.
• Responsible for helping manage the workplace injury prevention program and coordinate occupational clinics for injury issues, follow up for recovery and return to work program.
• Provides training and education to encourage a positive culture that prioritizes safe practices.
• Understand and stay current with all health and safety related issues.
• EHS Coordinator may be required to work irregular hours and be available for on call. The EHS Coordinator must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
• High School Diploma required
• OSHA 30 Hour General Industry certified preferred
• Workplace First-Aid CPR Instructor certified preferred
• 5-7 years of public/workplace safety services
• 3 years of EHS experience
• Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and government regulatory requirements and guidelines
• Demonstrated experience collaborating cross-functionally
• Effective communication skills
• Reliable transportation and ability to drive between multiple facilities
• Ability to report onsite to the facility
• Ability to work irregular hours and be available for on call
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
