JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability Specialist to support our Production site in Hollister, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing/maintaining the Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) Program(s) for adherence to local, state, and federal regulations. You will also identify and mitigate potential hazards to reduce/eliminate risk exposure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish, administer, update and manage EHS&S programs to meet company Global Operating Framework standards and ensure compliance with regional, state and federal safety and environmental regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and ensure timely reporting of safety and environmental data, documentation, permits and licenses to all applicable regulatory agencies. Assess new regulatory standards and identify program changes to meet new requirements.
- Leverage the existing safety and environmental training within the company’s Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver training to employees and develop site/business specific training as necessary.
- Develop the facility inspection program for department and site management to conduct documented safety walkthroughs to identify findings and provide technical support to implement solutions. Document information in company Management Information System (Enablon).
- Lead the site risk assessment program, develop a training program and tool to identify work hazards, assess the risk and implement effective controls using the hierarchy of controls model.
- Utilize change management practices to implement new programs and processes.
- Track hazardous waste (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act - RCRA) and medical waste disposal records including waste profiling, permitting, and manifesting.
- Maintain all documentation and submit records to agencies as necessary for reporting requirements.
- Assist management team in emergency response and function as EHS&S Emergency Coordinator for 24-hour incident response.
- Support the investigation, root cause analysis and corrective/preventative action plan of proactive safety and incident reports. All details need to be documented and tracked in company Management Information System (Enablon).
- Serve as Chairperson of Safety Committee(s), provide guidance on EHS&S issues to staff, and provide summary reports of notes to management team.
- Describe procedures and produce written documentation as proof of compliance to clients and federal and state investigators. Coordinate communications to regulatory agencies and client inspections on EHS&S-related matters.
- May assist in development of departmental budget and development of EHS&S programs and metrics.
- Develop sustainability initiatives to protect employees and the environment while promoting responsible business practices.
- Possess knowledge of biosafety, chemical safety, industrial hygiene, and overall environmental awareness.
- Coordinate efforts to educate employees and provide site guidance on ergonomics.
- Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess one of the following:
- Associate's Degree (A.A./A.S) in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering or related discipline AND seven (7) years of related experience in Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering or related discipline AND five (5) years of related experience in Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability.
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge and application of environmental health and safety regulations and familiarity with EHS&S regulatory agencies’ protocols (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DEP, DOT, NRC, etc.).
- Industrial hygiene skills and ergonomic program experience are preferred. Knowledge of governmental safety and environmental regulations and chemical handling preferred.
- Ability to interpret federal and state regulation and apply them to address compliance solutions as required.
- Hands-on experience in an industrial or manufacturing work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret/apply required federal or state regulations and manage multiple/changing priorities with many interruptions.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, project management skills, and strong time management and organizational skills are required.
- Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system. Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Effective writing, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to work under specific time constraints
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training
- Certified Safety Professional certification
- Ability to speak Spanish
SALARY TRANSPARENCY
The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 / annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
