Intern Chemistry department
Department:
The Chemistry Department consists of about 100 employees divided into the Analytical and Physical Chemistry, Environmental fate, Bioanalysis, Test Item Receipt and Formulation units. Our research is diverse, and we investigate a multitude of substances with a comprehensive modern laboratory. Our research is aimed at enabling safe use of new substances.
The laboratories employ state-of-the-art techniques such as UPLC-UV, LC-(MS)MS, GC-FID, GC-(MS)MS and ICP-(MS)MS and other specific techniques.
About our team:
Our team has a pleasant and informal atmosphere. As an analyst, you will work within a dynamic and diverse team of experienced professionals on various analytical chemical challenges to enable development of new drugs, among others.
Possible internship projects:
If you want to do your first internship at CRL within our Analytical and Physical Chemistry, Environmental fate or Bioanalytical section, we will introduce you to various aspects of working in a contract research laboratory.
Under the guidance of an experienced analyst, you will perform analyses for toxicological studies. This includes being trained for sample processing, GC/ICP/LC analysis and data processing. The analysis technique depends on type of project and/or availability. During the internship you will also be introduced to good laboratory practice (GLP),
You will conclude your internship with an in-depth research in one of the analytical studies and prepare a thesis on this subject.
Examples of internship projects.
• Transferring validation studies to a new system (Analytical Chemistry)
All our studies we perform are according to a specific OECD guideline. These studies have to be validated at least once every four years. This will be performed with known compounds and the results have to be within the criteria stated in the guideline. Because our analytical systems can change over the years, most likely the method will have to be further optimized to reach the criteria. As an intern you will learn the type of study, working with the analytical system and performing a validation.
• Development of case studies for different type of studies or different analysis techniques (Analytical Chemistry)
CRL has a modular training program where we train new colleagues “on-the-job” for at least 3 months. We normally use our current workload for that. But sometimes we cannot use those to train new colleagues. Therefore, case studies will be developed. The goal of this project is mimic a study with a readily commercial available compound. You will perform a method development-validation for this compound, you will get trained in the analytical system and study. At the end of the internship, you will write an analytical procedure that can be used for training a new colleague.
What is required?
• Third year Bachelor HBO student in analytical chemistry;
• You are trained to work safely and effectively in a laboratory environment;
• You are enthusiastic about analytical characterization techniques for APIs in the pharmaceutical industry;
• You have (some) knowledge about HPLC and/ or GC analysis (preferred);
• You are searching for an internship where you have the freedom to take initiative;
• You are available for a period of at least 4 – 6 months for 5 days a week.
• You are able to travel to Den Bosch (Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Fate) or Schaijk (Bioanalysis and Physical Chemistry).
Selection procedure:
• Please motivate in you cover letter which section or subjects have your preference.
• After receiving your application, we need some time to review. After the review we will inform you if you will be invited for an interview.
• During the interview we will discuss the subject of the internship. This can be different than the above-mentioned examples.
• If the internship is assigned to you, our HR colleagues will take care of your internship agreement.
Our offer to you:
Interning at Charles River means working in state-of-the-art laboratory. On-the-job training under the guidance of a senior analyst and the opportunity to develop and grow in your field.
• The chance to gain experience in your field of study;
• An opportunity to maximize your potential and possibilities for your first job after graduation;
• Monthly internship allowance.
