Job Summary
We are seeking an Animal Care Technician III to work at our client's facility located in Carlsbad, CA.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Under minimum supervision, this individual will provide study support, general husbandry and occasional cagewash support following established protocols/guidance documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general & specialized husbandry following established Guidance Documents.
- Provide handling and restraint of regulated species.
- Identify and report complex signs of clinical illness and provide treatment at the direct supervision of the veterinary staff.
- Provide post surgical observations and record keeping.
- Perform glucose tolerance testing in accordance with approved protocols.
- Demonstrated competence in rodent dosing: PO, IP, SQ and topical.
- Perform rodent blood collection: tail, sub-mandibular, cardiac puncture, inhalation anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery and necropsy as directed.
- Conduct technical procedures such as dosing, tissue collection.
- Provide training and mentorship to other departmental personnel on husbandry and technical procedures.
- Responsible for proficiency in all departmental SOPs and all ACT I/II essential duties.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for this role candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/certification/experience:
- Bachelor’s of Science degree in a Life Sciences discipline and two (2) years related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above.
- CVT/LVT/RVT certification and two (2) years directly related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above.
- Associate's of Science degree in a Life Sciences discipline and three (3) years related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above.
- High School diploma/GED and four (4) years directly related work experience in laboratory animal husbandry and technical skills as detailed above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Basic scientific knowledge as demonstrated by previous scientific coursework, and/or prior work experience in a scientific setting.
- Basic understanding of the drug development process.
- Ability to demonstrate strong teamwork orientation; oral and written communication skills; attention to detail, organization, achieve work goals with minimum daily oversight, and superior customer service focus. Must demonstrate accountability and ethics in performance of daily responsibilities.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with clients, customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English.
- Computer literacy in word processing and database record keeping.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- AALAS Certification at the LATg level.
The hourly pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
