Animal Facility Supervisor

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Animal Facility Supervisor to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Cambridge, MA.

As the Animal Facility Supervisor, you will provide direct supervision of daily activities of Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) animal facilities. Provides supervision and training for employees in the Animal Care Technician team. Maintains performance levels consistent with and according to company standards, the CRADL organization and client requirements. Prioritizes and completes on-going tasks independently following established policies and guidelines. Liaises with clients to ensure satisfaction with technician performance.

Additional responsibilities include:

• The Supervisor supervises and manages the daily activities of employees conducting husbandry and support services in the facility. They are responsible for personnel management activities such as mentorship, personnel actions, training and development, performance feedback, disciplinary actions, and annual performance and salary reviews.
• The Supervisor plans, creates, assigns, and monitors work schedules for employees, including weekend, and on-call coverage, to ensure optimal team performance. They ensure the team is appropriately staffed to match the organization's changing needs.
• The Supervisor monitors and analyzes employee performance to ensure the highest level of animal care and support, timely reporting of health concerns, and meeting client needs.
• The Supervisor monitors and documents task completion and deviations from defined KPIs, submitting monthly reports to CRADL management to support contract deliverables.
• The Supervisor provides animal husbandry backup for tasks such as animal welfare checks, receiving, cage changing, and facility support as required. They have the ability to provide technical backup for dosing, injections, and collections as needed.
• The Supervisor inspects animal housing systems to ensure proper setup and function. They coordinate the movement of animals throughout the facility and assign housing locations for incoming animals.
• The Supervisor conducts frequent quality assurance inspections of all animal holding and support facilities to determine the degree to which established levels of animal health, facilities condition, sanitation levels, environmental parameters, and security are being met or exceeded.
• The Supervisor participates in all IACUC semi-annual activities, including follow-up on any findings for the site and the organization.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Facility Supervisor position.

• High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred.
• Minimum four 4 years in a laboratory animal facility of which 2 years is supervisory or lead technician experience.
• Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification from AALAS or Certified Supervisor (CS) certification from ICPM preferred.

The pay range for this position is $87K-95K USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
