Job Summary
We are looking for an Lead Animal Care Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team at Boston Children's Hospital located in Boston, MA.
As the Lead Technician, you will provide guidance to technicians in the day-to-day operations of the animal facilities and program.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Help train animal care staff in the following: cage changing, microisolator cage changing techniques, autoclave/cagewash operations, and other husbandry duties.
- Provide support in animal rooms changing cages and work in cage wash operations.
- Ensure all rooms are observed daily to monitor the health of the animals and report negative findings to the veterinary staff.
- Ensure proper maintenance of animal records to include room logs, health reports, cage card labels, autoclave/cagewash records, animal census and other necessary records.
- Inspect the animal holding areas and support facilities to ensure they are meeting/exceeding regarding animal health, facilities conditions, environmental parameters and security. The goal is to provide quality performance of departmental and client objectives in all areas and interact with the customer to solve requests, inquiries and provide technical assistance.
- Provide back-up and assistance to the Animal Facility Supervisor.
- Assist/provide input to the supervisor/manager regarding personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personal actions (hiring, promotions, transfers), training and development, disciplinary actions, and providing feedback and direction on performance to assist in preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.
- Serve as a role model and ensures accurate, high-quality work and adherence to dept. policies, practices, and procedures.
Job Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Lead ACTI position:
- High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent
- Two to four years husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility.
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) or higher or ability to successfully achieve ALAT certification within one (1) year of hire/promotion
- Other: Working knowledge of laboratory animal facilities operations. Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond timely to the needs of faculty, research personnel and ARCH Client staff to ensure that excellent customer service is provided at all times. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Positive, professional leadership skills to: coach and influence employees; counsel, and provide supervisor with feedback for productive performance evaluations.
The pay for this position is $35-$37 USD per hour.
