Job Summary
We are looking for a Molecular Biologist to join our Insourcing Solutions team in Bethesda, MD.
The person will be responsible for the screening, identification, and sequencing of genome of transgenic and CRISPR/cas9 genome edited animals and tissue culture cells. Will represent MGGM in discussion with investigators to create GEM models.
- Provide investigators rodent genotyping assistance. Direct individuals on the necessary steps associated with the technical duties needed to extract the DNA and run the PCR analysis for specific markers/genes.
- Assist investigators with animal model development and give advice on creating effective GEM colonies.
- Develop and provide investigator training presentations on creating effective gene cassettes, and related topics.
- Familiarity with cryopreservation of sperm and embryos and in-Vitro Fertilization for long term storage of animal models.
- Consult with all parties involved with the service as needed to set up pertinent procedures and schedules. Provide an efficient channel between the lab director, investigators and the CMB service support group.
- Report any animal health, care, and / or well-being concerns to the appropriate facility management staff.
- Maintain integrity of the research process, including detailed accurate record keeping and routine animal observations.
- Report any facility infrastructure, relative to the animal care and support areas, to the appropriate facility management.
- Ability to work flexible hours to ensure research needs and experiments are carried out to comply with appropriate timelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s or Ph.D. degree
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong background in molecular biology, mouse genetics, small animal handling as well as tissue culture.
- In depth knowledge of latest techniques of CRISPR/cas9 gene editing of mammalian genome and tissue culture cells.
- Familiarity with the production of genetically engineered mouse (GEM) models and experience of management of mouse colonies preferred
- in-vitro Fertilization (IVF), cryopreservation and rederivation of mouse lines will be a plus.
- The individual must be able to express verbally and in writing and have proficiency in MS Word/Access/Excel, with a background in statistical analysis.
The hourly range for this position is $44-47 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
