Job Summary
In the role of General Manager Reno you will be responsible to have a holistic view of deliverables and orchestrate execution through understanding the big picture, leveraging their leadership team, strategic collaboration, organizational navigation, and focused urgency, while balancing financials and resources and driving culture. The General Manager Reno directs the development, implementation, and achievement of short- and long range objectives, policies, budgets, and operating plans for the site and provides the leadership, management, and strategic focus necessary to deliver business strategy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead overall area/P&L to deliver annual plans and long-range strategic objectives, while continuously monitoring the competitive landscape and responding strategically to maintain and gain market share.
- Grow organizational capacity, capabilities, agility, and continuity by effectively balancing long-term strategic needs and immediate business goals, responding to industry disruptions, employing focused urgency, and effectively promoting and leading change.
- Utilize corporate resources and leverage expertise and business intelligence to have a pulse on all critical internal and external factors and enable seamless, collaborative, holistic decision making.
- Build and effectively leverage a high-performing leadership team and mobilize an inspired, purpose-driven culture focused on engagement, retention, and career development.
- Approach business with an agile and customer-centric mindset that drives process improvement, efficiencies, effective and timely customer response, and customer-centered growth.
- Develop appropriate global, regional, and departmental synergies to promote innovation, knowledge/technology transfer, sharing of best practices, and integration of activities.
- Manage conflict and crisis situations while maintaining operational continuity and knowing when to escalate and leverage partners and stakeholders.
- Develop short- and long-range operating strategies, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans. Partner with HRBPs as needed.
- Direct all operating activities at site, including commercial production schedules, materials, equipment, and workforce requirements for laboratory animals.
- Develop and manage divisional budget. Approve departmental budgets and expenses, and authorize expenditures in accordance with budget.
- Monitor and maintain high quality products and services. Ensure strict compliance with all biosecurity and animal welfare procedures and initiatives.
- Represent the organization to industry groups, key customers, representatives of government and regulatory agencies, and the general public. Interact with government representatives and customers when site visits are conducted.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in life science subject (preferably veterinary medicine).
- Master’s degree in business (MBA) or Master’s degree (M.S.) or equivalent, in life sciences or related field preferred.
- At least ten years experience in scientific and management in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, or contract research fields.
- Knowledge of business and operations management and a good understanding of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic organizations.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal and problem-solving skills.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills which are conducive to effective communication.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere using a professional/ethical manner with clients, co-workers and management.
- Previous experience having financial responsibility for one or more business units required.
- Must be an excellent negotiator who is experienced in contracts and have a demonstrated track record of accomplishments with service labs.
- Must have sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
Compensation Data
The pay range for this position is $200,000-250,000/yr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Charles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance.
