We are seeking a Cage Repair Technician I at our Safety Assessment site located in Reno, NV.

The Cage Repair Technician is a skilled team member who supports daily cage repair operations and site needs through reliable execution of core tasks. This role applies practical knowledge of equipment support, housing maintenance, cage changes, and documentation to maintain high standards of cleanliness, and operational efficiency. The Cage Repair Technician works independently on routine tasks, follows established procedures, and supports team collaboration and cross-functional operations. When not being used in support of cage maintenance, the associate will function within the standard roles of Animal Care Services.

Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine shop tasks independently, including equipment support, housing maintenance, and transfers to clean caging.
- Perform basic equipment repairs, including mobile and fixed caging units. This would include part replacement, wheel maintenance, front door repair, welding, rust removal, and tracking of repairs.
- Respond to broken cage calls. Determine if cage can be repaired in room or if removal is required.
- Respond to animal drinking water alarms.
- Assist in EU dismantling and setup: removal of ceiling panels and changing of air filters, removal of drain covers, EU cage repair (to include but not limited to: main door latches, front doors of the dose boxes, redrilling of screw threads, balcony supports, and perch repairs).
- Communicate and coordinate with Cagewash, deliveries, and other teams as needed, to include movement of cages in and out of the vivarium and completion of cage repair tags
- Maintain, stock, and manage non-consumable equipment and team inventory in conjunction with a Supervisor in Animal Care Services.
- Participate in required training and follow all SOPs, GLP standards, and safety procedures.
- Assist with coordination efforts and support best practices within the team.
- When not being utilized for cage repair, the technician will be certified on animal room husbandry and cage wash tasks. These skills will be used to assist with workload. Prioritization of cage repairs versus husbandry/cage wash will be determined by the Supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred.
- Experience: 6 to 12 months of relevant experience.
- Other: Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
- Certification/Licensure: Welding certificate or proof of experience preferred.
