Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Technician II (Rodents) to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD.
As an Animal Care Technician II, you will split your time approximately 50/50 between rodents and NHP, using existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to monitor daily animal health and welfare, while performing daily animal health observations.
Additional responsibilities include:

Animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals including performing daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage/run checks.

Providing appropriate food and water.

Performing cage changing and/or cage/run cleaning as required.

Recording animal health concerns.

Assist with performing animal restraint, handling, and manipulation, in addition to maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, health, census, and housing or support areas as required, and ensuring cage cards have correct information.

Receiving, inspecting, and putting away incoming animals, following appropriate quarantine procedures.

Process caging and equipment through cagewash machinery and generate cage set ups.

Maintain animal housing areas, including room/facility personnel entry and protective equipment use.

Provide prescribed treatments, assisting Vet Techs as needed, as well as being involved in breeding and weaning procedures (e.g.: tail/tag procedures).

Ensure compliance with, and providing support to, the NHP environmental enrichment and psychological well-being plans.
Job Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Care Technician II position:
- High school diploma or GED.
- A minimum one (1) year of animal care and handling experience with rodents; NHP experience also preferred.
- Eligibility for the AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education/experience listed above.
The pay rate for this position is $24.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
