JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Production Supervisor (Small Animal) at our Breed  site in Hollister, CA.

 

As the Production Supervisor, you will provide daily supervision of personnel and operations to ensure achievement of departmental goals.  You will independently manage routine personnel-related issues; provide input and assists with managing complex personnel-related issues.

 

This position may require weekend, holiday, and/or on call shifts.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Coordinate scheduling of activities of the department through hands-on technical support, delegation of responsibility and/or authority to departmental subordinates.
  • Provide daily supervision and training of assigned departmental employees.
  • Assist upper management with personnel tasks, including interviewing, hiring and disciplining of employees, evaluating employee performance, developing goals and objectives for assigned employees, determining work and vacation schedules.  Review and approve timecards and overtime.  Review training records.
  • Delegate and oversee the coordination of all veterinary care procedures and protocol support activities to maximize the veterinary staff’s capabilities.
  • Conduct routine 1:1 meeting to provide mentorship and support for all team members.
  • Conduct weekly team meetings with technical staff. 
  • Serve as a model to departmental subordinates by demonstrating effective time management, communication and utilization of resources.  Provide leadership and motivation to departmental personnel.
  • Monitor work of assigned employees to ensure adherence to appropriate SOPs, safety and biosafety procedures and animal use protocols.  
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and report preparation.
  • Review safety issues and Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Actively interact with and provide technical assistance to project managers as required to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Review customer complaints and participate in the development and implementation of any resulting procedural changes.  Create and maintain complaint chart.
  • Conduct audits on routine schedule. 
  • Ensure that departmental equipment is maintained in good working condition and that departmental area(s) are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.  Ensure proper recycling and setup of cages in assigned area(s).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in life sciences or related discipline.
  • 5+ years related experience working with animals in a laboratory or clinical setting.  
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • LATG certification preferred
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.  Demonstrated computer skills (data input, word processing) required.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to perform assigned tasks, remove, fill and reinstall containers within the isolator, and handle and obtain samples using standard laboratory equipment. 
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and type at a computer for extended periods of time. 
  • The employee may be required to use a microscope, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. 
  • Must constantly position self to access and inspect small rodents and be able to assess their condition and environment from various angles or distances. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (scrubs, disposable gown, exam gloves, head/beard cover, surgical/N95 mask, respirator.

 


The pay range for this position is $68,000 - $77,000 / annually.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
