Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Data Science Intern to join our R&D organization in Charleston, SC. In this role, you will work at the intersection of data science, microbiology, and/or genetics to support research projects. You will assist with building data processing pipelines, analyzing scientific datasets, and contributing to improvements in current processes and workflows. This internship is ideal for students who are excited to apply data science methods in the field of Microbiology and/or Genetics.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Assist in designing and managing data processing pipelines across R&D projects. 
•    Apply quantitative, optimization, statistical and machine learning/artificial intelligence tools to support projects.
•    Organize, curate, and analyze data from different formats and fields.
•    Assist with managing the content and structure of databases.
•    Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of results through strong documentation and record-keeping practices.
•    Work collaboratively with scientists and manufacturing teams to understand project needs and deliver high‑quality data insights.
•    Follow all data integrity guidelines, safety procedures, and laboratory compliance requirements.
•    Perform additional tasks and project support as assigned.

Job Qualifications

•    Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university degree program pursuing a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in the field of Computer Science, Data Science or Bioinformatics. 
•    Minimum completion of sophomore year with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
•    Exposure to scientific or research environments is preferred (undergraduate research experience is a plus).
•    Familiarity with Python coding is required. 
•    Ability to work on multiple projects, strong attention to detail, and effective communication and listening skills in a teamwork environment. 
•    Availability to complete a minimum 10‑week internship between May and August.

 

The pay range for this position is $20.00-22.00 per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
