Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cagewash and Animal Care Supervisor to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Cambridge, MA.
The supervisor provides leadership and oversight of Central Services (Cagewash) and Animal Care Technicians and operations to maintain performance levels consistent with, and according to, company standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate with and provide leadership and guidance to staff to maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives. Coordinate personnel scheduling in line with business objectives. Build competence among employees through conducting appropriate training activities.
• Conduct routine inspection of cagewash facilities, equipment and materials to ensure materials availability, animal facility support, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security are being met/exceeded.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance of all cagewash machinery
• Participate in the development of SOP’s; oversee adherence to SOP’s and all required documentation
• Oversee record maintenance. Generate and submit internal and external reports in the required formats and timeframes.
• Maintain required attendance levels and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure completion of assigned duties.
• Maintain effective and efficient cagewash and animal care operations through staff oversight, training and development.
• Maintain cooperative and coordinated relationships with client operations, facilities, and research support staff.
• Continuously pursue educational and professional development opportunities to enhance and expand relevant skills and knowledge.
• Continuously support vivarium management in maintaining compliance with all internal (IACUC) and external (USDA-APHIS, PHS-OLAW,) regulatory agencies as well as AAALAC International accreditation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of federal, state, local (Animal Welfare) laws, departmental SOPs and regulations pertaining to Good Laboratory Animal Practices.
Initiative for solving equipment problems. - Experience in supervising staff; performing evaluations, participating in the hiring and disciplinary process.
- Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Fundamental knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and Email)
- Must be able to represent Laboratory Animal Services department in a professional manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
to qualify for this role, candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:
- High School Diploma plus a minimum of 5 years of related laboratory animal facility experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory role.
- Associate's degree in animal science or related field plus a minimum of 4 years of related laboratory animal facility experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory role.
- Bachelor's degree in animal science or related field plus a minimum of 3 years of related laboratory animal facility experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory role.
Additional Experience:
- Performing cage wash duties and knowledge of equipment.
- Performing animal husbandry and knowledge of animal facility operations.
- Previous training in leadership and soft skills.
- Previous participation in employee evaluations, disciplinary actions and the hiring process.
Certification/Licensure: ALAT required. Preference will be given to candidates who evidence achievement of AALAS certification at the LAT level or above.
The pay range for this position is $90-98K USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
