Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Gaithersburg, MD.
As the Animal Care Technician II, you will perform daily laboratory animal care duties including animal health monitoring, animal husbandry, and routine cleaning and sanitation.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Performs animal husbandry duties including but not limited to preparation and actual changing of animal cages and related cage accessories of small animals, feeding and manual watering or monitoring/ testing watering devices independent of supervision.
- Performs daily animal health observations and reports any abnormal conditions or behavior of animals to the LAR Supervisor and/or Facility Director.
- Operate cage/rack washers, autoclave and sterilize animal caging equipment and materials, ensuring that all logbooks, checklists and other records are completed accurately in a timely fashion.
- Cleans assigned animal rooms, facility and animal care equipment and associated animal facility areas as assigned.
- Monitors and reports any irregularities in the room temperature, light cycles, air changes, and other environmental conditions that may affect animals.
- Performs all work assignments in accordance with guidelines established by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and AstraZeneca specific SOP and protocol instructions.
- Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by LAR Supervisor or Manager.
Job Qualifications
To qualify for this role, candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years’ experience
- AA/AS and 1.5 years directly related lab animal experience
- BA/BS in animal or life sciences, and 1 year of experience
Certification/Licensure: Evidence of achievement of AALAS certification at the ALAT level or above preferred.
The pay range for this position is $26 to $28 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
