Job Summary
A professional internship designed to provide on-the-job training and experience to current college students. Engages in various work assignments, projects, and activities of varying complexity, structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform at a professional level, typically identified with a targeted exempt position. Receives training and mentorship in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Fulfilling tasks assigned by a supervisor.
• Job shadow with assigned personnel in the department(s) to understand processes.
• Perform simple tasks as assigned to assist in assigned department (laboratory, animal setting, or administrative) including, but not limiting to:
• Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of department areas.
• Perform basic animal husbandry tasks (feed, water, change bedding).
• Sterilize and/or remove used laboratory materials (e.g., petri dishes, culture tubes, crates, etc.).
• Wash, sterilize, and prepare glassware for laboratory use.
• Prepare/mail crates and serology kits to customers in support of animal and/or sample submissions.
• Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files, and organize documents.
• Assist in preparing information and research materials, where applicable.
• Set up, break down, organize, and maintain conference rooms, training rooms, and meeting rooms.
• Take proper safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety gear/equipment in the performance of all duties.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location

Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• • Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.). Currently in related program/studies in higher education. Completed sophomore year of studies in related program.
• Experience: 0 to 6 months of laboratory and/or clerical experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Certification/Licensure: None.
• Other: Must be eligible to work under state and federal regulations. Must be able to understand and follow verbal direction.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and type at a computer.
• The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet, humid and/or extreme temperature conditions, unpleasant odors, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Regularly wears protective clothing (goggles, face shield, surgical mask, cap, gloves, scrubs, boots); works with sharp objects; occasionally works with or near biohazards and live animals with risk of exposure to allergens and/or zoonotic disease(s).
• General office working conditions; the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
